Shelter in Place

April 27, 2020

My hope is that while we shelter in place, we will take care of ourselves. Mindfulness should start your day. Make it a priority to commit to sitting for at least five minutes a day.

  • Create a sacred place

  • Replace bad habits with good

  • Don’t go it alone

Live in the moment, try to bring an open, accepting, and discerning attention to everything you do. Focus on the present moment and accept it without judgment.

Accept yourself.  Treat yourself the way you would treat a good friend.

Focus on your natural breathing. Allow thoughts to come and go without judgment. Be kind and forgiving to yourself.

Do one thing at a time and give it your full attention.

  • Yawn and stretch for 10 seconds every hour

  • 3 hugs, 3 big breaths hourly

  • Stroke your hands

  • Clinch your fist  and breathe

  • If you feel any stress breathe for 1 minute.

I read articles from the Harvard Health Reports and John Kabit Zinn, the founder of Stress Reduction Clinic in Massachusetts, and some thoughts of my own to complete this article.  I hope they will help you develop a daily habit of mindfulness.

“Let go of expectations and be kind to yourself. Mindfulness means not being on autopilot going through the motions of life.
